Organisations behaving responsibly on Suicide Prevention & Mental Health
Governments and other National Programs promote similar messages to reduce the risk of suicide:
*Don't mock or make jokes about mental illness. Learn compassion for people whose brains are not functioning so well at the moment. View it as a physical disease of a body part, the brain, rather than a flaw or a sign of weakness.
*Talk about your own experiences with depression or other mental illness as openly is as safe for you.
*Share information on how people can contact a trained professional by talking to a General Practitioner and using tools like Find a Psychologist

Responsible Reporting of suicide in a club or work environments:
* portray the suicide as tragic waste and an avoidable loss which has devastating effects on others
* emphasize that suicidal thinking is a symptom of a temporary mental health problem that can be overcome with support education and medical treatment.
* describe the suicide truthfully as "the person took their life" without detailing the method and location which has been found to increase copycat suicides.

Suicide facts
The good news is that the suicide rate in Australia has decreased by 17% over the past decade, from 12.7 to 10.5 deaths per 100,000 people, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Data from 2009 (ABS, Causes of Death, 2009) shows that more people die from suicide in Australia than in road related transport deaths (1,151). Approximately 24 suicides occur every day in Australia 1 every four hours.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death among Australians between 15 and 34 years of age. Suicide rates for males in this age group have decreased over the past 10 years, with decreases of 34% for 15-24 year olds, and 46% for 25-34 year olds, while for other age groups the suicide rate has remained more stable. There has been little change in the suicide rate for females across all age groups over the past decade. Males account for approximately 3 in 4 suicide deaths.
